§ 13-19. Alternate materials and methods.

  • The provisions of this article are not intended to prevent the use of any material or method, provided any alternate material or method has been approved and its use authorized by the chief of the bureau of fire prevention and the chief of the fire department. Before such approval and authorization shall be given, sufficient evidence or proof shall be submitted to substantiate any claim that the proposed design, use or operation complies with the intent of this article, and the material, method or work offered is at least the equivalent of that prescribed in this article in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability and safety. The approval shall also be subject to the approval of the city planner whenever the alternate material or method involves matters regulated by the building code.
